15 - 1 cup assorted candies (gumdrops, mini pretzels, chocolate buttons, sprinkles, candy canes, etc.)
16 - 1/2 cup shredded coconut (optional, for snow effect)
17 - 1/4 cup mini marshmallows (optional)
# Step-by-Step Guide:
01 - Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
02 - In a large bowl, cream the softened butter and brown sugar together until light and fluffy. Add molasses and egg, mixing until fully combined.
03 - In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, ground ginger, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, and salt.
04 - Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture to the wet ingredients, stirring until a smooth dough forms.
05 - Divide dough in half. Roll each portion between parchment sheets to about 1/4-inch thickness. Use templates to cut dough into panels for the house structure.
06 - Place the cut panels on prepared baking sheets and bake for 12 to 15 minutes until edges are firm. Allow to cool completely on a wire rack.
07 - Beat egg whites until foamy. Gradually add sifted powdered sugar and lemon juice, beating until thick and glossy. Transfer to a piping bag fitted with a small round tip.
08 - Pipe royal icing along panel edges and join to form the house. Hold pieces together until icing sets, then allow drying for 30 minutes.
09 - Using remaining icing, pipe decorative details and attach candies, shredded coconut, and marshmallows as desired. Let dry completely until icing is firm before display.
